New method of automotive emissions toxicity estimation using in-vitro tests
Car vehicles are specific source of toxic gases emission. Those mobile generators of complex, potential hazardous, chemical gaseous mixtures strongly impact on human and environment. Existing methods of toxicity evaluation based only on chemical quantity and quality measurements and sometimes, in deeper studies, on calculation based on the chemical analysis results (using different toxicity equivalent factors). The methods do not take into consideration additive synergism phenomena and according to recent research in most cases do not correspond with real effect on live organisms. Author of this paper presents new method of toxicity estimation, based on in-vitro tests on human lung cells, for different automotive applications (engine exhausts and vehicle interior atmosphere) and its application for chosen objects.
