Problems in the creation of databases for complex computer systems on the example of SIMMAG3D tool
The paper presents the problems of designing database for complex computer systems. Particular attention has been paid to the problems that occurred in the development of databases used to operate the SIMMAG3D tool (3D warehouse modelling and visualization tools). Authors outlined the specificity of this tool, as well as consequences and requirements for the construction and functioning of databases associated with it. They showed a wide range of diverse data that should be included in database. For modelling storage facilities and their processes it is necessary to have information about eg: warehouse logistics task (logistics form of handled material units, volume and frequency of their handling), occupied area and cubic capacity, equipment used in the facility and its parameters, internal and external transport means used in the facility and theirs parameters, basic warehouse activities performed to accomplish a logistic task, work organization in the facility, as well as used warehouse strategies (probabilities of passing between the various phases of the warehouse process).
In addition, the paper presents the requirements for such databases (databases for SIMMAG3D - complex computer system). This includes database definition tools, data management tools, algorithms, methods and rules for consistency and correctness of the database, as well as the effectiveness of it. The last element discussed was the aspect of required data availability for the computer systems and their security. Paper presents the results of the research carried out in the frame of PBS 3 project "System for modelling and 3D visualization of storage facilities" (SIMMAG3D) financed by the National Center for Research and Development.
