The article presents examples of engines intended for the propulsion of aircraft, which were then adapted to power land-based armored vehicles of increased mass. They provided the power necessary to achieve the required mobility of these vehicles. These were mass-produced engines and were therefore readily available in large numbers. The repair of damaged engines was also made easier. Both spark-ignition and compression-ignition reciprocating engines as well as gas turbine engines were used to drive armored vehicles. General solutions of these dual-use engines used by the Allies during the First and Second World Wars and references to engines used today are presented. The characteristic design solutions of their assemblies are emphasized. Vehicles powered by these engines are described.
